Take 10 With COUPAR’s Monica Eng

COUPAR’s Lead Project Manager, Monica Eng, is approaching two years with our studio team. A San Francisco native from the Richmond District, Monica has a B.S. in mechanical engineering from Boston University and an A.S. in Interior Design from Canada College. Her intersecting background in engineering and design and her innate technical skills are an incredible asset in managing our design projects. She enjoys strolling through the San Francisco Art Museum or concocting matcha lattes for that morning boost in her free time.

CC: What’s inspiring you in life (in the industry) right now?

ME: I’ve been loving the soft and modern designs of Cathie Hong Interiors.

CC: What modern design trend makes you cringe?

ME: Barn doors - the lack of sound insulation makes them seem impractical to me.

CC: Favorite place to view art?

ME: The de Young or Legion of Honor. One of my favorite weekend activities is walking to check out their new exhibitions and revisiting their permanent collections.

CC: Least favorite color?

ME: Red. The intensity of the color has a negative effect on me, making it my least favorite.

CC: What’s your favorite time of day?

ME: Late night is my favorite. There is something very calming about the quiet of the late/very early hours of the day.

CC: Secret talent?

ME: Word games. I am surprisingly good and fast at finding words in a jumble of letters.

CC: If you had one more hour in the day what would you do with it?

ME: I would use it to go on the after-work walks that I always end up putting off or, honestly, to get an extra hour of sleep.

CC: Favorite scent?

ME: Anything with gardenia, tuberose, or grapefruit.

CC: Sweet or savory?

ME: Savory.

CC: What’s one thing that is always in your refrigerator?

ME: Oat Milk to put in the iced matcha latte that I make every morning to start my day.
