Congratulations EJA Lighting Design!
COUPAR's Marketing and PR client EJA Lighting Design recently celebrated its 25th year of illuminating interiors, exteriors, and fine art. Lighting was in Founding Principal Eric Johnson's destiny. With the magical given name Merlin, his father invented, developed, and manufactured an optical lighting framing projector for fine art in 1969. The elder Johnson worked as a machinist for Wendelighting. Its owner, Rudolf Pierre Wendel, an optical scientist whose lighting systems illuminated European museums, mentored Merlin. At EJA, Eric and Co-Founder Kimberly Johnson, with their team, continue to innovate lighting, blending aesthetics with technical precision.

During EJA's twenty-five years, they have collaborated on projects with the Bay Area's most esteemed architects, interior designers, and builders. One of these projects, headed by Principal Margit Yasukawa, shared a dream team of Skurman Architects, Tucker & Marks, and Van Acker Construction. The French neoclassical-style estate in Pacific Heights possessed an impressive pedigree. Bliss & Faville built the mansion in 1905, and Albert Farr remodeled it in 1930. The team needed to modernize the home while honoring its history. In the art deco media room, Margit layered architectural, casework, accent, and specialty lighting to achieve the right ambiance.

With twenty-five years of collaboration, when EJA held a celebratory party, it was a great turnout—on a beautiful May evening on the Bay, friends, colleagues, and clients gathered at Epic Steakhouse to toast Eric, Kimberly, and the team, looking forward to the next twenty-five years. It was also an opportunity to introduce EJA's new President, Mike Heiss, formally. Mike, an entrepreneur with small business training, adds to the company's pool of technical expertise with a mechanical engineering and industrial design background. Eric will continue to do what he loves most, collaborating on and illuminating projects as Principal Lighting Designer.
